Portaferry Road WwPS

The MEICA refurbishment contract for NIW’s Portaferry Road WwPS, located in Newtownards, County Down included for the replacement of the existing Portaferry Road WwPS. The existing works included both a foul and storm pumping station, associated buildings and a standby generator that were in poor condition with high operational costs due to the age of the associated plant.

Enisca was engaged as Principal Contractor for the scoping,design, provision, installation, testing and commissioning of all mechanical, electrical, control, automation, monitoring, telemetry / SCADA equipment, and the associated ancillary civil engineering works. Early contractor involvement included meeting Asset Management and Operational teams to develop/confirm the scope, optioneer solutions and identify efficiencies.

Enisca’s MEICA scope at the 2 No. pump stations included the detailed design, supply, delivery to site, offloading, construction, installation, and commissioning of all works associated with the new wastewater pumping station, before demolition of the existing WwPS:

  • 2 No. duty/standby pumps capable to pass forward 190l/s 2no. mixer pumps
  • Provision of minimum of 507m3 emergency effective storage volume within new PS chambers
  • 6mm static screen on emergency overflow (minimum 510 l/s)
