Automation Manager

Job Purpose:

To manage the design and procurement of Automation projects by working with the client, suppliers and project delivery team to ensure projects are set up efficiently and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To plan and manage all design and procurement activities for Automation projects.
  • To understand the client’s requirements and ensure projects are designed to meet their specifications in an efficient and safe manner.
  • To identify the project deliverables and that these are clearly communicated so that all involved in design and delivery have a clear understanding of these requirements.
  • To manage and co-ordinate the design process across the different engineering elements e.g. Automation, electrical, process, etc.
  • To manage the change control process to ensure all design changes are communicated to and agreed with the client.
  • To identify suppliers and subcontractors and negotiate with them for the procurement of plant, materials and services.
  • To lead, manage and liaise with the project delivery and procurement teams in monitoring supplier and subcontractor performance and report any problems to the Contracts Director.
  • To monitor and report on procurement costs to ensure they remain within budget.
  • To prepare monthly progress and financial reports as requested.
  • To ensure all design and procurement activities are carried out in line with the requirements of the company’s Integrated Management System and its procedures and identify opportunities for improvements to be made.
  • To work closely with the project delivery team to establish project programmes, budgets and resources.
  • To support project delivery team, providing technical assistance and guidance.
  • To understand the contractual arrangements of a project and ensure that they are not compromised due to design or procurement issues.
  • To manage the supply chain and foster close working relationships.
  • To foster good working relationships with the client to facilitate a partnering ethos at all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • To maintain the highest standards of confidentiality with all client and company data and information.
  • Initiate and drive a continuous improvement ethos on each project to enhance safety standards, product/service quality, profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate and contribute to project /quality reviews and implement agreed improvements.
  • Adhere to all HR and H&S policies and procedures.
  • Undertake any other such duties considered to be commensurate with the experience of the post holder and the requirements of the post.
